....although I'm sitting in the departure lounge...Thai Silk, no less...on the way to Saigon in an hour, laptopping. Bibi and I went on a canal tour yesterday
and saw an entirely different side of Bangkok. Called "the Venice of the East",
the canals are the roadways of a large part of the city....
all life happens along the side....laundry, washing, eating, praying, fishing and just plain hanging out...although Bangkok is not filled with hordes of unemployed.
We saw a water iguana...this friend is at least 5 feet long...
banana plants, water lilies, houses on stilts
that don't look strong enough to support the houses, large estates, colourful temples...it\'s all there.
In the evening Bibi and I had a typical Thai massage which we are still recuperating from...to give you our impressions of this, I leave you with the image of the second most popular sculpture in Bangkok, after Buddha of course:
